Aldi Joins the Ranks in Allegheny Township: How Hyde Park Plaza’s Growth Strategy is Boosting the Local Economy

Aldi’s Expansion Boosts Business Growth in Allegheny Township

Aldi, the popular discount store chain, is set to open a new location in Hyde Park Plaza in Allegheny Township. This news was confirmed by Township supervisor Jamie Morabito, who has been working tirelessly to attract new businesses to the area since joining the board in January 2022. With nearly 2,400 Aldi locations already established across the country, the addition of a new store in Allegheny Township is part of the company’s growth strategy.

Since Jeff Paul purchased the property in September 2022, Hyde Park Plaza has seen an influx of new businesses like Ollie’s Bargain Outlet and Dollar Tree, bringing the total number of storefronts to 16 with 564 parking spaces available. Currently, Giant Eagle is the only supermarket operating in Allegheny Township, making Aldi a welcome addition to the community. With its ambitious plans to open 800 new stores nationwide by the end of 2028 and Pennsylvania identified as a key area for expansion, Aldi is set to bring more choice and competition to local shoppers.

Morabito worked closely with Aldi’s site coordinator over a year and a half period providing traffic and demographic data to showcase the benefits of establishing a presence in Allegheny Township despite concerns about its relatively small population of just over 8,000 people. As new businesses continue to set up shop in Allegheny Township vacancy rates are expected to decrease and Morabito remains optimistic about growing commercial landscape in township.
