Surprising NFL Draft Picks and Changes in CBS’s Pregame Show: Insights from Analysts and New Joiners

Matt Ryan replaces Phil Simms and Boomer Esiason on ‘NFL Today’

In recent news, the NFL Draft’s first round saw some surprising and expected picks made on the first night of the event. As a journalist, I had the opportunity to speak with Mackenzie Salmon about his insights on the draft and what he thinks about this year’s picks.

Meanwhile, changes are coming to CBS’s NFL pregame show as the network announced that former league MVP Matt Ryan will be joining “The NFL Today.” This news marks the end of an era for longtime analysts Phil Simms and Boomer Esiason, who had been with CBS for nearly 20 years. Ryan, who retired from the NFL last week after a successful career with the Atlanta Falcons, joined CBS Sports last season as an NFL game analyst and appeared in the studio during the playoffs and Super Bowl.

Reflecting on his new role, Ryan shared his appreciation for the opportunity and expressed excitement about joining “The NFL Today” and continuing its high standards set by his predecessors. Both Esiason and Simms had their contracts expire after the Super Bowl, and CBS decided not to renew them. However, Esiason will continue his work with CBS through his radio show on WFAN, which is also simulcast on CBS Sports Network.
